A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure Review

So I know I review anime on this blog (and sometimes music) but I decided for once to review something non anime. I know I would be doing more anime tournaments but OI will postpone it to do this review. A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure or Sammy's Adventure: The Secret Passage is a 2010 French-Belgian 3D computer animation film about 88 minutes long released by StudioCanal (France). About 7 years ago I stumbled across this on Netflix and decided to rewatch it again to do this review. There are two different versions of the movie, one with voice actors from the UK and another with voice actors from the USA. While it is a kids movie, I've done reviews on stuff I'm kind of embarrassed so it doesn't matter and I'm anonymous to most of you reading this anyway. While it may look and sound like Finding Nemo, there's no such thing as an original idea nowadays so I wouldn't call it a copycat or ripoff. I really liked A Turtle's Tale and I think it is a underrated movie but I also do love sea turtles and therefore this movie appeals to me. It follows the stages off life very well and has good themes of coming-of-age and not giving up. There is also a 2012 sequel A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise (Sammy's Great Escape in UK), but like most sequels it's not as good as the original.

Summary
A Turtle's Tale is an adventure, coming-of-age, romantic, drama that follows a young green sea turtles through his life from meeting his best friend Ray, finding his mate Shelly, as well as facing the changes caused by humans.

Music
If this movie doesn't sound familiar then the music in it will. The music was composed by Ramin Djawadi. It includes artists Bruno Mars, Donavon Frankenreiter, Dry Spells, Mika, Justin LaVallee, The Mamas & the Papas, Mishon, Self, and V V Brown. There is also a cover of Michael Jackson's "Ain't No Sunshine."

My Thoughts
I really liked A Turtle's Tale and it really reminded me of the movies I watched during my childhood, most of which were from Disney. While it may not seem original, it gave me a kind of good-feeling, and trust me, nowadays, there is no such thing as an original idea. I really liked the coming-of-age concepts as well as the portrayal of the life of a sea turtle and the importance of a natural ecosystem such as the ocean. I'm a biologist though so there are things that are inaccurate but the filmmakers had to make it that way so it would be suitable for little kids. To me this film had some important life lessons of never giving up and the power of love and friendship which I never get tired of watching. Because I'm a sucker for romance I do have to point out that I think Sammy and Shelly are a pretty cute couple. I love sea turtles so A Turtle's Tale did appeal to me and it hit the spot pretty well.

My Conclusion
I would give A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure 4.5/5 stars or a 9/10 score. I would probably give it 5 stars if I was a little kid but it has kind of lost some touch with me. Nevertheless it is a really good movie with good life lessons and I would recommend it to kids and even teens and adults who still enjoy kids flicks will also really like it too. To me this movie is just one of those hidden gems.

Anime Villains Tournament Final

In my last 3 posts (Round 1, Round 2, & Round 3) I've been doing an anime villains tournament. Like in most playoffs this will be a bracket system. Now we're down to our two finalists. Naraku vs. Kyofusho. Below is the bracket. Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Naraku (Inuyasha)
The main villain in Inuyasha his name means "hell." He is the reason for nearly every character's suffering in the series.

VS

Kyofusho (My Story)
The leader of the demons in my story, Kyofusho is intelligent and plans to turn humans and yokai against each other to kill them off and rule the planet for himself and other demons. Kyofusho believes demons are superior and lesser beings must be annihilated. His name means phobia which he often uses against his enemies.

The Winner
And the winner is...

Kyofusho!!!!

Kyofusho's intelligence, strength, and power certainly make him the victor in this tournament. While the other villians are badass, Kyofusho's cunning, intelligence, along with his powers, and physical strength and endurance make him the victor.

Final Overview
Please comment if you have someone who you think should be an honorable mention! Check out Rounds 12, and 3 as well. Also, stay tuned for more tournaments different character types (Heroines, Love Interests, Tsunderes) in the future and I will probably get to posting My Story as well.

Kyofusho (My Story)
The leader of the demons in my story, Kyofusho is intelligent and plans to turn humans and yokai against each other to kill them off and rule the planet for himself and other demons. Anime Heroes Tournament Final

My 100th post! I've been doing an anime heroes tournament in my last 3 posts (Round 1, Round 2, & Round 3). Like in most playoffs this will be a bracket system and what do you know, we are down to our two finalists, Takeshi Hachuu vs. Yusuke Urameshi. As you know this is a list for HEROES, I will probably make another tournament for heroines in the future! Sorry if your favorite character didn't make it! Below is the bracket. Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Yusuke Urameshi
Yusuke is no pushover, fighting demons is his specialty and we see how truly badass he is in Yu Yu Hakusho. From the beginning, Yusuke has been itching for a fight. Although, only able to use it once a day, his spirit gun can easily take out an enemy with a single shot. As it turns out, Yusuke is a descendant of demon king, Raizen too.

VS.

Takeshi Hachuu
While not the biggest or strongest of our heroes at 5'8" (172 cm) and 160 lbs (73 kg) as a full-grown adult, Takeshi truly makes up for it with speed, agility, skills, powers, and intelligence. While he does not wish to harm others, Takeshi is willing to protect those he loves even if it costs him his life. His reptilian powers, combined with his strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, durability, weapons, and martial arts skills more than give him a spot in this contest. He is pretty much a combination of Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games Saga) and Robin (Original Teen Titans).

The Winner
By a hair the winner is...

Takeshi Hachuu!!!!

Takeshi's speed, agility, , skills, powers, and intelligence definitely make him the most badass hero in this tournment. He is willing to protect his loved ones at the cost of his life. His reptilian powers, combined with his strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, durability, weapons, and martial arts skills put him at the top spot in our tournament and make him the true victor.

Final Overview
If you have someone who you think should be an honorable mention, please comment! Check out Rounds 12, and 3 as well. Tune in for more tournaments with different character types (Heroines, Villains, Love Interests, Tsunderes) in the future and sometime I will post My Story as well.

Anime Heroes Tournament Semifinals

In my last 2 posts (Round 1 & Round 2) I started an anime heroes tournament. The way they will be set up is a bracket system like we have in most sports playoffs and I have included the characters from My Story in here as well because I think they are so badass they could definitely beat most of the other heroes, though I'd feel bad if i put brothers Takeshi and Taro against each other. Also, this is a list for HEROES, I will probably make another tournament for heroines in the future! So we are down to the semi-finals! Sorry if your favorite character didn't make it! Below is the bracket. Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Taro Hachuu
While not as large with an at 5'7" (170 cm) and 150 lbs (68 kg) as a full-grown adult, Taro is not one to be underestimated either. From his super skills with knives and other weapons and martial arts, to his reptilian powers and strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, durability, and ability to take hits and fight even when injured, as well as taking on opponents well larger than him, Taro is truly one badass. He could possibly give his older brother, Takeshi, and Yusuke a run for their money.

VS

Yusuke Urameshi
Our other contender Yusuke is no pushover, fighting demons is his specialty and we see how truly badass he is in Yu Yu Hakusho. From the beginning, Yusuke has been itching for a fight. Although, only able to use it once a day, his spirit gun can easily take out an enemy with a single shot. As it turns out, Yusuke is a descendant of demon king, Raizen too.

Son Goku
With his giant muscles and Super Saiyan powers, and his influence on anime, Goku is without a doubt a worthy combatant. He is without a doubt one of the most well-known characters in this tournament. From super strength to his Saiyan abilities Goku could have an edge in this competition.

VS

Overview
If you have someone who you think should be an honorable mention, please comment! Check out Rounds 1 and 2 as well. Check back in a few weeks to see the results and who our two finalists will be. Also, I will probably be doing more tournaments with different character types (Heroines, Villains, Love Interests, Tsunderes) in the future and I hope to start posting more to My Story as well!
