Anime Heroines Tournament Final

For the past few months I've been doing yet another anime character tournament, this time with heroines using a bracket system. And what do you know! We're down to our two finalists! Annabelle "Angel" Ahrimo vs San/Princess Mononoke. Below is the bracket that I've worked out to get to this. Sorry if the words are small and bury!

Characters
Annabelle "Angel" Ahrimo (My Story)
On the outside Angel may look thin, beautiful, and not much of a fighter but her intelligence, adaptability, cat powers, and skills with weapons and martial arts make her a worthy opponent. While Angel does not like harming or killing others she is not afraid to stand her ground and protect the ones she loves.

VS

San/Princess Mononoke (Princess Mononoke)
San is probably the most badass lead female I've come across. San was abandoned by her parents and raised by wolves. Her strong hatred for humans along with her wolflike instincts as well as her fighting skill, speed, strength, agility, and athleticism make her a powerful contender among our heroines.

The Winner
And the winner is...

Annabelle "Angel" Ahrimo!!!

Angel's intelligence, beauty, powers, and skills make her the victor in this tournament. While all our heroines possess some form of combat skills, Angel's personality, intelligence, quick learning, along with her cat powers, martial arts, and weapons skills make her the victor.

Final Overview
Please comment if you have someone who you think should be an honorable mention! Check out Rounds 1, 2, & 3 as well. I will be doing more tournaments on tsunderes and love interests in the future as well. And hopefully star posting My Story.

Anime Heroines Tournament Semifinals

If you've read my last 2 posts you'll know I started yet another tournament, this time involving anime heroines. It is set up like a playoff bracket you see in sports. As usual characters from My Story are here and please read Rounds 1 & 2 if you haven't already. Below is the bracket.

VS

Asuka Langly (Evangelion)
The Eva pilot for the Evangelion Project who pilots the Evangelion 02. She is a child prodigy with a college degree at just 14. She does everything well lets it be known. This one could've gone either way but Asuka just barely beats Morgiana.

VS

Nina Moriko (My Story)
Nina may look like a thin, dainty, flower at 5'3" (160 cm) and 105 lbs (48 kg) full grown, but like most tsundere's she's fierce and mighty. Her owl powers, strength, agility, athleticism, and skills with her crossbow and darts give a spot in this tournament. Nina is strong-willed and able to take on opponents larger than herself.

Overview
Please comment if there's someone who you think should be an honorable mention and read Rounds 1 & 2 as well. Check back later for the results and who our champion will be! I will do more tournaments with tsunderes and love interests, as well as some possible future reviews and eventually to

Anime Heroines Tournament Quarterfinals

On September 17, I started yet another anime characters tournament, this time with heroines. As usual it is set up just like the playoffs in sports. Characters from My Story are in here too and if you haven't already, please read Round 1. Below is the bracket I've worked out and what I've narrowed it down to! Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
A flame haze said to be most powerful and feared by the Crimson Denizens, this has allowed Shana to defeat many enemies and earn a place in our tournament. She is known as "Flaming-Hair, Blazing-Eyed Hunter." Sorry, Fate/Stay fans but Shana just barely edges out Saber.

VS

Annabelle "Angel" Ahrimo (My Story)
On the outside Angel may look thin, beautiful, and not much of a fighter but her intelligence, adaptability, cat powers, and skills with weapons and martial arts make her a worthy opponent. While Angel does not like harming or killing others she is not afraid to stand her ground and protect the ones she loves.

Asuka Langly (Evangelion)
The Eva pilot for the Evangelion Project who pilots the Evangelion 02. She is a child prodigy with a college degree at just 14. She does everything well lets it be known. This one could've gone either way but Asuka just barely beats Morgiana.

VS

Masami Kobayashi (My Story)
Another heroine form my story, Masami is one badass heroine with her good looks, athleticism, and skills with martial arts and weapons. While she has no powers she more than makes up for it and like her cousin, Takeshi, Masami will also protect those she loves even at the cost of her life.

VS

Boa Hancock (One Piece)
A Shichibukai and captain of the Kujia Pirates, she is also the Empress of the Amazon Tribe on the Isle of Woman. While she detests world government she wants to keep her Shichibukai title. She at the cursed "mero-mero" fruit giving her the ability to turn anyone she thinks is beautiful into stone.

Nina Moriko (My Story)
Nina may look like a thin, dainty, flower at 5'3" (160 cm) and 105 lbs (48 kg) full grown, but like most tsundere's she's fierce and mighty. VS

Nausicaa (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)
The Princess of the Valley of the Wind, Nausicaa is smart, resourceful, and a skilled swordsman. A windrider who can use the wind well and flies a "Mehve," a glider with an engine. Nausicaa strives to stop mass killing, suffering, and destruction.

Anime Heroines Tournament

So previously I did a tournament for anime heroes and anime villains. Well for the ladies it is now time for tournament for anime heroines. As usual this will be done in a bracket system. And characters from My Story are in here as well because I think they have more than what it takes. Because I have to limit the bracket to 16 heroines there are some honorable mentions of heroines who didn't quite make the cut. Below is the bracket I've worked out! Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Saber (Fate/Stay Night)
As one of Shirou's servents, she is a powerful warrior. She is considered most outstanding with very high ratings. Saber is strong-willed and heavily focused on her goals.

VS

Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
A flame haze said to be most powerful and feared by the Crimson Denizens, this has allowed Shana to defeat many enemies and earn a place in our tournament. She is known as "Flaming-Hair, Blazing-Eyed Hunter."

VS

Hinata Hyuga (Naruto)
The eldest daughter of Hyuga's clan main branch. She possesses the Byakugan giving her almost 360 degree vision. She creates a new ability called Protection of Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, a combination of the Hyuga clan's most powerful techniques.

Asuka Langly (Evangelion)
The Eva pilot for the Evangelion Project who pilots the Evangelion 02. She is a child prodigy with a college degree at just 14. She does everything well lets it be known.

VS

Morgiana (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic)
Morgiana is a pure-blood descent of the hunting tribe, Fanalis. She has great strength, keen senses, and great fighting ability. She can even run up walls vertically. Morgiana is one badass heroine and may give Asuka a run for her money!

VS

Nami "Cat Burglar" Namizo (One Piece)
A member of the Straw Hat Pirates, Nami is one of the best navigators sailing the Grand Line. Nami can hold her own and shows exceptional strength and athleticism, and having great skill with a bo staff.

Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach)
The captain of the 13th Division and former lieutenant Rukia is one tough girl. Her Kido skills as well as her marksmanship make her a worthy combatant in the tournament of heroines.

VS

Rin Tohsaka (Fate/Stay Night)
Our second heroine from the Fate/Stay series, she is a top student and idol at Shirou's school. Rin is secretly a Magus and Master in the Fifth Holy Grail War. She is very competitive and proves to be a skilled Magus.

Nina Moriko (My Story)
Our third heroine from my story.

VS

Asuna Yuuki (Sword Art Online)
The sub-leader of the guild Knights of the Blood (KoB) she earns the title "Flash" from her extraordinary swordsmanship. This alone gives Asuna a slot in our tournament.

Sakura Haruno (Naruto)
The only female ninja of Team 7, training under the Sannin Tsunade, Sakura has become recognized as one of the greatest medical-nin in the world. Her chakra control, ninjitsu, and intelligence make her one badass female ninja.

Honorable Mentions
To make this bracket fit, I had to chose 16 heroines, so here's the honorable mentions who didn't make the cut.

Mikasa Ackerman (Attack on Titan)
The adoptive sister of Eren Yeager, Mikasa excels with combat abilities and usage of thunder spears. Her love for her family and sense of right and wrong give her the drive throughout the story. She's am honorable mention who barely made the cut.

Benio Adashino (Sousei no Onmyouji/Twin Star Exorcists)
The next head of the Adashino household, she is one of the current Twin Star Exorcists along with Rokuro Enmadou. Her passion and powers with exorcism and Byakurin Toki make her an honorable mention who didn't quite make the cut.

Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon)
The reincarnation of Princess Serenity and the warrior of love and justice, Usagi is the leader of the Sailor Senshi. While Sailor Moon grew really big, Usagi or Sailor Moon didn't make the cut because she's a bit of a crybaby and isn't really what I see as badass enough to be in this tournament.

Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura)
The main character of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sakura is very energentic, athletic, and cheerful. As a Cardcaptor, she is responsible for collecting and sealing all the Clow Cards. While she is very well loved, I think Sakura's "cuteness" or "kawaii" doesn't quite make her fit to compete in a tournament of badass heroines.

Overview
It's the start of the heroines tournament! f you'd like to vote or have someone you think should be an honorable mention, please comment! Check back in about a week or so to see the results. I will probably be doing more tournaments (Tsunderes, Love Interests) in the future and I plan on posting more to My Story in the future as well.

A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure Review

So I know I review anime on this blog (and sometimes music) but I decided for once to review something non anime. I know I would be doing more anime tournaments but OI will postpone it to do this review. A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure or Sammy's Adventure: The Secret Passage is a 2010 French-Belgian 3D computer animation film about 88 minutes long released by StudioCanal (France). About 7 years ago I stumbled across this on Netflix and decided to rewatch it again to do this review. There are two different versions of the movie, one with voice actors from the UK and another with voice actors from the USA. While it is a kids movie, I've done reviews on stuff I'm kind of embarrassed so it doesn't matter and I'm anonymous to most of you reading this anyway. While it may look and sound like Finding Nemo, there's no such thing as an original idea nowadays so I wouldn't call it a copycat or ripoff. I really liked A Turtle's Tale and I think it is a underrated movie but I also do love sea turtles and therefore this movie appeals to me. It follows the stages off life very well and has good themes of coming-of-age and not giving up. There is also a 2012 sequel A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise (Sammy's Great Escape in UK), but like most sequels it's not as good as the original.

Summary
A Turtle's Tale is an adventure, coming-of-age, romantic, drama that follows a young green sea turtles through his life from meeting his best friend Ray, finding his mate Shelly, as well as facing the changes caused by humans.

Music
If this movie doesn't sound familiar then the music in it will. The music was composed by Ramin Djawadi. It includes artists Bruno Mars, Donavon Frankenreiter, Dry Spells, Mika, Justin LaVallee, The Mamas & the Papas, Mishon, Self, and V V Brown. There is also a cover of Michael Jackson's "Ain't No Sunshine."

My Thoughts
I really liked A Turtle's Tale and it really reminded me of the movies I watched during my childhood, most of which were from Disney. While it may not seem original, it gave me a kind of good-feeling, and trust me, nowadays, there is no such thing as an original idea. I really liked the coming-of-age concepts as well as the portrayal of the life of a sea turtle and the importance of a natural ecosystem such as the ocean. I'm a biologist though so there are things that are inaccurate but the filmmakers had to make it that way so it would be suitable for little kids. To me this film had some important life lessons of never giving up and the power of love and friendship which I never get tired of watching. Because I'm a sucker for romance I do have to point out that I think Sammy and Shelly are a pretty cute couple. I love sea turtles so A Turtle's Tale did appeal to me and it hit the spot pretty well.

My Conclusion
I would give A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure 4.5/5 stars or a 9/10 score. I would probably give it 5 stars if I was a little kid but it has kind of lost some touch with me. Nevertheless it is a really good movie with good life lessons and I would recommend it to kids and even teens and adults who still enjoy kids flicks will also really like it too. To me this movie is just one of those hidden gems.

Anime Villains Tournament Final

In my last 3 posts (Round 1, Round 2, & Round 3) I've been doing an anime villains tournament. Like in most playoffs this will be a bracket system. Now we're down to our two finalists. Naraku vs. Kyofusho. Below is the bracket. Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Naraku (Inuyasha)
The main villain in Inuyasha his name means "hell." He is the reason for nearly every character's suffering in the series.

VS

Kyofusho (My Story)
The leader of the demons in my story, Kyofusho is intelligent and plans to turn humans and yokai against each other to kill them off and rule the planet for himself and other demons. Kyofusho believes demons are superior and lesser beings must be annihilated. His name means phobia which he often uses against his enemies.

The Winner
And the winner is...

Kyofusho!!!!

Kyofusho's intelligence, strength, and power certainly make him the victor in this tournament. While the other villians are badass, Kyofusho's cunning, intelligence, along with his powers, and physical strength and endurance make him the victor.

Final Overview
Please comment if you have someone who you think should be an honorable mention! Check out Rounds 12, and 3 as well. Also, stay tuned for more tournaments different character types (Heroines, Love Interests, Tsunderes) in the future and I will probably get to posting My Story as well.

Anime Villains Tournament Semifinals

During my last two posts (Round 1 & Round 2) I started a tournament for Anime Villains. It is set up like a bracket system and characters from My Story are in here as well. I'm not a huge expert on villains so keep that in mind and there will be more tournaments in the future. Below is the bracket. Sorry if the words are small and blurry!

Characters
Naraku (Inuyasha)
The main villain in Inuyasha his name means "hell." He is the reason for nearly every character's suffering in the series.

VS

Myou (My Story)
Towering at 6'2" (188 cm) and weighing 195 lbs (88 kg), the son of Kyofusho. Myou is a force to be reckoned with. Strong and powerful as well as skilled with martial arts and weapons Myou is no pushover when it comes to demons. His name means dark.

VS

Father (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Known as The Dwarf in the Flask, he is the the original homunculus and a living philosopher's stone, created by Van Hohenheim. He deems power over ownership and seeks to become superior to the human race.

Overview
Please comment if you have someone who you think should be an honorable mention. Check out Round 1 and Round 2 as well. Check back for the results. I will be doing more tournaments for the future with different character types (heroines, love interests, tsundere) and eventually getting to post My Story as well.
