2020 Valentines Day Post Part 1

It's that special time of year again, Valentines Day! My 2017 Valentines Day Post was my most viewed post and my 2019 Valentines Day Post (1 & 2) from last year was so long I had to split it in two parts. This year will be another extremely long post which will also be split in two parts. With the number of anime and other media there are I had to limit the couples to what I know and what I've heard of. I could probably put 300 couples on here and that would still be too short! If you there is a couple you think should be included, please read part 2 and if that didn't include your couple, please comment. Because many couples can fit into different categories I will list their names but only explain them once. I'm a sucker for romance and I'm a grown man who failed at finding a partner so I need something to fill that empty void of loneliness. As usual I will first explain what makes a good couple. During Part 2 you'll see couples from My Story. Feel free to ship these couples and I want their love stories to be excellent, the exact opposite of Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey. Feedback is wanted but only CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. A lot of this is kind of my opinion on what I've watched. If your opinion is different, that's fine! Finally, I may reveal some endings so...

*************************!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!*************************

Love Song: When You're Gone-Avril Lavigne
I love this song and it's such a beautiful song about missing some you love. Avril said the song "is about being with someone you love, and you have to say goodbye, and all the little things you miss about them." The song describes really missing someone you really love and how much you think about them waiting to be reunited with that person. We see this with the couples in the music video.

What Makes a Good Couple
If you've read my past Valentines Day posts you probably already know what I expect out of a good couple. I will explain again if you haven't. It's about the chemistry between a couple and how good they are together and how lovable they are as a couple. What also matters is how much two people truly care about each other and if they'll go to the ends of the earth for one another. I usually prefer couples around the same age plus or minus a few years. I used to be attracted to girls my age but now I prefer slightly older women (NOT COUGARS!). It's cool and a guy becomes the talk of the town for scoring with an older girl. I like slightly older girl and slightly younger boy couples too. This is just a short summary and there's a lot more to romance.

Worst Couples (Get the worst over with first)
These are some of the worst love stories! I've explain them before but I will go through them again.

Edward Cullen + Bella Swan (Twilight)- I've said this annually, NO just no! Almost everyone can agree Edward and Bella have the worst chemistry when it comes to couples. Their love story usually ranks towards the bottom. The only good thing about Twilight is Christina Perri's song, "A Thousand Years."

Ana Steele + Christian Grey (50 Shades of Grey)-NOO GOD! NO GOD PLEASE NO! NO! NOOOOOOOO! 50 Shades of Grey would give Twilight a run for its money for worst love story. This movie is basically just Twilight all over again.

School Days Pairings- probably one of the most F***ed up anime I've heard of. Just blood, guts, gore, and slaughter with some dating and romance. If you love violence and blood and are addicted to it, go ahead and watch School Days, if you're into romance watch something else.

Kirino Kosaka + Kyosuke Kosaka (Oreimo)- I've slammed this anime in almost every V-Day post I've done. So I'll just say this. They are incest, these two are brother and sister and are blood-related.

Average/Mixed Reviews
These couples have mixed opinions about them. Some people love them, some like them, some hate them, and some are indifferent. I like some of these couples more than others but most of them I'm indifferent to. This is based off my opinion and if you have a different opinion, that's fine.

Kirito/Kazuto Kirigaya + Asuna Yuuki (Sword Art Online)- SAO is one the anime that people either love or hate and the same can be said with the romance. Asuna is a neo-tsundere so she changes pretty quickly. Kirito and Asuna bond and show how much they care about each other. I'm in between with this couple and while a still kind of like them and SAO I found myself liking SAO less the as new movies or series came out and it just got old despite being entertaining at first.

Saito Hiraga + Louise Francoise Le Blanc de La Valliere (The Familiar of Zero/Zero no Tsukaima)- Louise is a tsundere so there's mixed opinions about this couple. Louise is rude, mean, and even abusive towards Saito at first, but shows feelings for him. Saito's not thrilled about Louise either but is loyal to her and cares for her. Saito dies and is resurrected and Louise shows how much she does love him. They get married in the end. I'm pretty indifferent on this couple and I see both good and bad things on this ship.

Sesshomaru + Rin (Inuyasha)- Other fans like these two as a couple, but I don't really like them. While Rin does look up to Sesshomaru and Sesshomaru cares about Rin, I see it as more of a father-daughter, guardian-child, or an older brother-younger sister relationship than an actually couple. Sesshomaru is way older than Rin which actually makes them being a couple wrong and I think I'm one of the very few who's actually bothered by this. Okay, Inuyasha is technically way older than Kagome but physically and mentally they are about the same age. Sesshomaru is a grown man while Rin is a little girl. I personally, think Rin is better off with Kohaku.

Ash/Satoshi Ketchum+ Serena (Pokemon X&Y)- Ash had many female sidekicks on his adventures so this is pretty complicated. Serena actually knew Ash before joining him on his journey. She is romantically interested in him whereas most of his other female friends see him as a traveling companion. Too bad, when they do kiss, she is departing but they'll at least remember each other!

Ash/Satoshi Ketchum + Other Pokemon Girls- If I had to list every one of Ash's potential suitors this list would be a lot longer so I will just summarize it. I think the writers just take out one love interest and put in another one for Ash. It's a little confusing and gets kind of annoying. I wish they could just have Ash to stick with one girl.

Naruto Couples- The series has pretty much resolved itself by now. If anyone thought love triangles were complicated, try explaining the beginning of this one. (Except for Ranma 1/2) Naruto likes Sakura but Sakura likes Sasuke who doesn't like Sakura in return, at first. Hinata has feelings for Naruto but initially he sees her as just a friend. Things turn around for good as Naruto returns his feelings for Hinata and they get married. The same happens for Sasuke and Sakura.

Should've Been Couples
I think these characters should've been couples or at least made it official in some way. I don't like it when an anime ends with an unresolved love story and for that reason, I didn't like the way most of these anime ended. I know some anime leave the romance unresolved but the manga runs longer and usually resolves the romantic situations and I might or might not include them here depending on how I feel. I mentioned Princess Tutu and Wind: A Breath of Heart in My Endings Rant. I could've listed about 100 pairs who should've been couples and that still wouldn't have been enough!

Ahiru Arima + Fakir (Princess Tutu)- I understand that this anime has a concept of fate and free will but it is still disappointing to me that Fakir and Ahiru weren't able to end up as a couple. I know they are still friends but I think they truly deserve to be a couple together more than Mytho and Rue. They deserve a better happy ending.

Ricca Morizono + Kiyotaka Yoshino (Da Capo III)- I was disappointed with this anime as it leaves a harem unresolved. Okay I admit, I'm pretty jealous of Kiyotaka and man I'd do anything to his place. Ricca is the best girl for him and truly loves him. There is a slight hint that they will end up together as a couple but really wanted to them to tie the knot and make it official that they're a couple. Okay I admit, Kiyotaka looks like me and Ricca is one of the most beautiful girls I've seen in anime and I would love to have someone like her as my girlfriend/wife. If only girls in real life looked like her and were like her.

Sheeta + Pazu (Castle in the Sky)- I love Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki and this was one of my favorites. It was pretty obvious Sheeta and Pazu had feelings for each other. They showed that they care about each other deeply and Pazu is willing to do anything to keep Sheeta safe. I believe they should've shown some obvious sign they were in love like kiss or something but that's my only complain of this film.

Rin Okumura + Shiemi Moriyama (Ao no Exorcist/Blue Exorcist)- I know their relationship goes further in the manga but it's left off on a cliffhanger in the anime. Rin and Shiemi show feelings for each other but it doesn't really progress much in the anime. I know many of us would be happy if they got together but I enjoyed Ao no Exorcist though.

Makoto Okano + Minamo Narukaze (Wind: A Breath of Heart)- This was first a visual novel developed my Minori, the same company that made Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two. It had so much potential yet F***ed itself up with the ending. The ending leaves off a cliffhanger which really pisses me off! It was clear Makoto and Minami had feelings for each other but leaves it off with Minamo angrily confronting Makoto about her feelings but still saying she loves him. WTF!? Like that's really the end?! Like c'mon give us some sign that Makoto and Minamo still love each other. If the relationship between Makoto and Minamo was resolved this anime would've been so much better and I blasted this anime in my Endings Rant.

Unresolved Harems- Ah one of my pet peeves, when a harem finishes unresolved. Harems are usually hit or miss for me and the ones I do like, there is one love interest who stands out, is clearly the best for the main character, and ends up with him in the end. There are many harem anime that would've been better if the main character ended up with the one who was best for him and it was obviously shown in the end.

Best/Popular Couples
There's a lot of debate over which couples are the best. I could list 200 couples and that would still be too short. So I will just list the couples I and most other people like.

Inuyasha + Kagome Higurashi (Inuyasha)- I said it before, If I made a Valentines Day Couples List and did not include these two, I do not think anyone would ever forgive me! There are a few haters but Inuyasha and Kagome are a popular couple. While they don't get along at first, they change throughout the story. Inuyasha becomes kinder, more sympathetic, and caring. Kagome shows her true feelings and that she cares for Inuyasha. They help each other out and are stronger together than alone and show that love and conquer obstacles and overcome anything in their way. There are conflicting ideas on Kagome or Kikyo. I support Inuyasha and Kagome, but most of the main characters would be dead if it weren't for Kikyo.

Sakura Kinomoto + Syaoran Li (Cardcaptor Sakura) (Clear Card)- How in the world could I make a Valentines Day Couples list and not include these Sakura and Syaoran? CCS is an amazing magical girl anime and Sakura and Syaoran are just so adorable together. I haven't heard of a single person who hated them as a couple and I don't see any reason to hate them. I really just can't get enough of this couple and many can agree. They start off as rivals but become friends. Syaoran warms up to Sakura's warmth, kindness, and soft feelings. Syaoran begins to have feelings for Sakura and Sakura returns her feelings towards him. Syaoran works up his courage to confess to Sakura and Sakura returns his confession saying she loves him too. They're always looking out for each other, Sakura's cute, Syaoran's cute, and together they're just so adorable. The movie and manga to the original manga and anime ended great as I stated in my review. While the Clear Card Arc anime has a little bit of a disappointment we still get more moments between them and the mangas still ongoing so we can expect more moments and see where their relationship goes next. Most of want them to kiss but they are 13 so they have plenty of time. The moment they do lock lips will be the greatest moment in the history of CCS.

Sakura + Syaoran (Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles)- Of course I'd have to include these with including CCS. Sakura and Syaoran are childhood friends and have known each other until Sakura loses her memories. Syaoran sets out to retrieve her memories and they fall in love along the journey as we see how much they care for each other. Syaoran will go to the ends of the earth for Sakura. I reviewed this anime, and while I liked it, it was disappointing that they didn't even kiss. I know that CLAMP knows how to make better endings and I've seen great endings from their other anime like Cardcaptor SakuraChobits, and Kobato. It was so obvious they were in love. I swear they better get married! If they don't get married in any future manga/anime I will go ballistic.

Banri Tada + Koko Kaga (Golden Time)- Golden Time is one of the best romantic comedy anime I've watched. While there are a few different opinions on Banri and Koko, I love them as a couple which is why I put them here. Banri and Koko get started early in Golden Time but not without conflicts though. There are some people who preferred for Banri to end up with Linda but the lesson in Golden Time is that childhood friends don't always end up together. While many people liked Toradora, including me, I actually liked Golden Time more for its ending, and Banri and Koko are now probably going to get married.

Kyoko Otonashi + Yusaku Godai (Maison Ikkoku)- A classic 1986 romantic comedy anime written by Rumiko Takahashi. Godai, a 20 year-old-college student, lives in a boarding house, Maison Ikkoku. Kyoko, a 22 year-old widow, takes over as landlady. Throughout the series we see Kyoko still cherishing her dead husband and the relationship between Kyoko and Godai develop. Eventually, Kyoko comes to terms that while Godai can't fully replace her deceased husband, she still falls in love with him and feels true love once again.

Shana + Yuji Sakai (Shakugan no Shana)- Even though there are some differing opinions on this couple, most of them are positive. Shana and Yuji are probably one of my favorite tsundere couples. Shana was cold and feisty toward Yuji at first but develops feelings for him and really cares about him. Yuji started to feel the same way. Of all tsunderes, Shana probably changed the most out of any character, going from being cold, cruel, and angry to being warm, kind, and caring. While there are different opinions about the way the anime ended, I liked it. Shana and Yuji are happy and together.

Kotaru Azumi + Akane Mizuno (Tsuki ga Kirei)- Tsuki ga Kirei was probably the best romance anime of 2017. Azumi and Mizuno meet during their last years of junior high school and develop feelings for each other. They go through the stages of falling in love with the joys and struggles that they go through. Azumi and Mizuno show that as long as you love someone and want to be with that person, you won't stop at anything for that person. No matter what that distance or obstacle, love conquerors all.

Kobato Hanato + Kiyokazu Fujimoto (Kobato)- A great series by CLAMP. As usual with CLAMP stores it starts off looking cute, innocent, and funny but becomes more serious, heartfelt and very emotional at the end. A male tsundere, Fujimoto, acts like he doesn't like Kobato at first but warms up to her and cares about her. Kobato's sweetness, kindness, and soft feelings don't change and she develops feelings for Fujimoto in return. This was a great ending which packed quite an emotional punch.

Usagi Tsukino + Mamoru Chiba (Sailor Moon) (Crystal)- If I ever made a Valentines Day couples list and didn't not include these two, I don't think anyone would ever forgive me. Sailor Moon is probably the most popular magical girl anime. Usagi and Mamoru initially didn't like each other but come to terms with their feelings. Usagi and Mamoru are incarnations of Princess Serenity and King Endymion. Mamoru breaks up with Usagi to protect her, but they get back together and are a stronger couple. We see how much they truly love and care about each other in the story. Usagi and Mamoru marry in the end.

Yuuta Togashi + Rikka Takanashi (Love, Chunibyo, & other Delusions/Chunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai)- This is another anime that looks cute, innocent, and funny at first but really hits you emotionally. Yuuta used to suffer from Chunibyo or Delusions in middle school and it was really embarrassing for him. He tries to escape it by going to a new high school until he meets Rikka, who suffers from the same thing and knows about Yuuta's past. However, there are sad and tragic for their delusions. Yuuta and Rikka fall in love and Yuuta cares for Rikka deeply. The 2018 movie, Take on Me was fantastic and took their relationship to a whole new level.

Keiichi Morisato + Belldandy (Ah! My Goddess/Ah! Megami Sama)- This anime gives me some hope as Keiichi is kind of like me. Keiichi gets taken advantage of and can't seem to win anyone over and has bad luck. A goddess, Belldandy appears when Keiichi calls the wrong number. Keiichi wishes for Belldandy to stay by his his side which she accepts. They truly care about each other and will go out of their way for one another, regardles of their flaws. I like this anime because it portrays as loser type of guy ("kind of like me") who gets a girlfriend who's beautiful inside and out.

Tomoya Okazaki + Nagisa Furukawa (Clannad/Clannad Afterstory)- One of the saddest anime series. Clannad is considered one of the best romance anime but I think it is a little overrated and I didn't enjoy it as much as other people did. I don't hate it and I get the emotions and sad feelings but I just think it's just overhyped. With his mother dead and father an alcoholic, Tomoya is living a rough life. Nagisa, who suffers from numerous health problems, befriends Tomoya. They share feelings for each other and care about each other so much.

Howl + Sophie (Howl's Moving Castle)- Probably the most popular of the Studio Ghibli couples. Sophie goes to Howl for help and they fall in love. They do become official in the end and are shown living together.

Chihiro Ogino + Haku (Spirited Away)- Spirited Away is the greatest film made by Studio Ghibli and directed Hayao Miyazaki. Chihiro is lost in the spirit world and Haku helps her out. Chihiro saves Haku's life in return for helping her and helps free him from Yubaba's control. We see how much they care about each other and help each other out. It's not official but it is hinted that they fall in love.

Mitsuki Koyama + Takuto Kira (Full Moon wo Sagashite/Searching for the Full Moon)- This was such a sad emotional anime but also gave me hope with its ending so it got 5 stars in my review. Mitsuki's dream is to become a singer so to fulfill her promise to her childhood friend Eichi Sakurai but unfortunately suffers from a throat tumor. Shinigami ("death spirits"), Takuto and Meroko come to help Mitsuki achieve her dreams after informing her she has one year left to live. Many things happen in the anime including Mitsuki finding out Eichi has died. However, Mitsuki realizes her own feelings for Takuto and we see they care about each other so much they'd give anything for the other person. The ending was the cherry on top, packing an emotional punch and gave us hope and joy for Mitsuki, Takuto, and everyone else.

Ikki Kurogane + Stella Vermillion (Chivalry of a Failed Knight/Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry)- Probably my favorite tsundere couple from a 2015 romance anime which I loved. Ikki starts off as a low rank student, while Stella is a high rank blazer who's also a princess and they are forced to share a room together. They are not thrilled about it at first but they come to terms with their feelings for each other. Stella's more of a neo-tsundere as she changes pretty quickly. They share plenty of moments in the series. In the end Ikki propses and Stella happily accepts, so they are going to get married.

Kaito Kirishima + Ichika Takatsuki (Ano Natsu de Matteru/Waiting in the Summer)- I loved this romance anime but I'm not sure if my heart can take the ending again, but it does have a positive twist to it. I absolutely love this couple as they are star-crossed lovers with Ichika being from another planet. Kaito's 2 years younger and shorter than Ichika which is another reason why I love them. They even kiss after they confess to each other, which is terrific, that doesn't happen too often. We get plenty of moments they bond and show how much they love and care about each other in the 12 episodes. The ending leaves bullet holes in your heart but there is a happy hint to it. Ichika is shown wearing Nanami's gift in the footage implying she was able to return to earth.

Mitsuyoshi Tada + Teresa Wagner/Teresa de Larsenburg (Tada Kun wo Koi ga/Tada Never Falls in Love)- A 2018 Doga Kobo romantic comedy and this is probably the strongest I've felt a character's pain. Tada and Teresa are in love but Teresa is a princess who's engaged to someone else for her own country. I relate to Tada because almost every girl I ever liked already had a boyfriend. Fortunately for our characters, Teresa's fiance calls off the wedding, so Tada and Teresa are able to be together in a happy ending.

Hodaka Morishima + Hina Amano (Tenki no Ko/Weathering with You)- I haven't seen this movie yet so I can't really say much but I've heard great things about it. So Hina and Hodaka probably have a great love story to go with it as romance is the main theme. I can't wait to watch it.

Best Romance in Non-Romance Anime
Most anime, movies, and stories have some type of romance even if the anime or manga isn't tagged as one. Because of that I will be listing couples from Non-Romance Anime where romance isn't a major focus of the anime.

Rokuro Ena + Benio Adashino (Sousei no Onmyouji/Twin Star Exorcists)- This was a fantastic 2016-17 anime that combined action, supernatural, fantasy, and romantic comedy in one. Rokuro and Benio aren't thrilled about working together at first, like many couples. But as they spend more time together they develop feelings for each other and fall in love. They even accept that they will get married as well.

Hayato Kazami + Asuka Sugo (Future GPX Cyber Formula)- This is a classic anime that I think deserves more attention. Hayato is a driver in the Cyber Formula who strives to become one of the best. Asuka is his older childhood friend who supports him and cares about him. One time Hayato suffers a near fatal crash and Asuka nurses him while he is injured. We get plenty of moments between these two throughout the series. In the end, Hayato and Asuka get married and Hayato continues his racing career.

Kenji Ninomiya + Yurie Hitotsubashi (Kamichu!)- This is a very underrated anime. Yurie is a shy, klutzy, cute, lovable girl who becomes a godes and is also trying to get Kenji to notice her. Kenji is a clueless boy into calligraphy. We are given hints that they have feelings for each other and in the last episode, Yurie says that Kenji is her boyfriend in the last episode. Kenji and Yuire are an adorable couple that deserve more attention.

Yusuke Urameshi + Keiko Yukimura (Yu Yu Hakusho)- Ah the Dragon Ball Z of the 1990s. But I think the romance in YYH is better than DBZ. Yusuke and Keiko are childhood friends who have known each other for a while. They do fight, but they truly care about each other and support one another.

That's it for this post. Please Read Part 2 when I post it and if there are any couples that you think should be added, feel free to post them in the comments.

You know what I say every Valentines Day so here's a picture to sum it up for me!
